Ten Bath coffee shops are participating in a city wide initiative in the lead up to the UK’s first coffee festival.

The Bath Bean Trail will encourage local residents to try a variety of coffees on sale around the city, demonstrating the quality and variety of coffee on offer from the independents, while also helping to emphasis why Bath is best placed to host the first coffee festival.

Bath Bean Trail cards can be picked up at participating coffee shops from Thursday 22nd April and the initiative runs up until the festival weekend.

Each card features the logos of ten coffee shops, five of which need to be signed by the manager on the purchase of a coffee. Once five signatures have been collected, the card needs to be handed in at the festival where it will then be entered into a draw to win a luxurious coffee hamper full of goodies worth over ÂŁ1,000.

Participating coffee shops are:

The Boston Tea Party (Kingston Parade)
Café Parisien (Milsom Place)
Café Retro (York Street)
Café Shoon (Old Bond Street)
Carpuccino (mobile coffee van located in Charlotte Street car park weekdays 7am – 10am)
The Green Park Brasserie (Green Park Station)
Kindling Coffee (Claverton Buildings, Widcombe)
Riverside Café (Argyle Street, next to the Weir)
Roscoff Deli (Northumberland Place)
Time Out Espresso Snack Bar (The Guildhall Market)

Linda Donaldson, organiser of the Bath Coffee Festival comments; “You get a very different coffee experience depending on where you buy your coffee in Bath. The independent coffee shops tend to all use different roasters, beans, blends and techniques, which make the end result taste very different.

"Our initiative will help highlight the range of coffee on offer in Bath as well as supporting local Bath businesses and demonstrating why the city of Bath can boast a true café culture experience.”

Mike Watts, director of the Time Out Espresso Snack Bar in The Guildhall Market said; “We have a wonderful array of coffee shops in Bath serving high quality coffees and it is great to be able to celebrate this and encourage customers to sample the different blends available around the city. It’s a fun way for businesses and locals to support the festival and help make it a success.”
